Mai Ling is a co-founder and CEO of Asian Bilingual Speech Therapy, bringing more than 20 years of experience across speech-language pathology, business development, and scaling organizations from the ground up. She's a Jersey Girl with an undergrad from Rutgers, The State University of NJ, and a Master of Science in Communication Disorders from Arizona State University.

Mai Ling is 1/2 Chinese (her dad is from Hong Kong) + 1/2 Colombian, 100% Made in the USA. Growing up with her grandparents, she understands a little Cantonese and Shanghainese. She came to this field through her aunt, a special education teacher who told her there was a nationwide shortage of speech therapists — and suggested her love of talking and connecting with people made her the perfect fit. Mai agreed enthusiastically,  returned to school for her master's, and has never looked back.

She's especially passionate about the intersection of technology and therapy — augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), and the growing, evolving role ethical AI can play in supporting clinicians and personalizing care for clients.

Above all, Mai Ling wants every family who works with ABT to feel like they've found a piece of home: protected, understood, and supported by a process that's both deeply organized and deeply human.

Yao is the COO and clinical lead at ABT, holding a Ph.D. in Informatics from UC Irvine along with 12 years of combined clinical, teaching, and research experience. She works with every family the way she'd want her own family cared for — with personalized clinical care and real education and counseling for caregivers, not just clients.

Yao is especially drawn to working with adults in rehabilitation and neurodiverse teens. She's a bilingual Mandarin-English clinician who's also learning Cantonese and Japanese, and loves connecting with the food, music, and history behind each language.

Outside of clinical work, Yao is a lifelong musician — she's played keyboard with her church worship team on and off since high school, and has sat in with Chinese pop bands just for fun. She's also known for having big, future-facing ideas that sometimes take a few years for everyone else to catch up to.

Miya is ABT's CFO, managing the company's finances and behind-the-scenes operations, and helping plan for a future where ABT can grow in a way that's financially sound and sustainable. She holds an M.A. in Speech-Language Pathology from Lehman College, CUNY.

Miya came to this field through her own experience as a parent — when her daughter needed Early Intervention services, she struggled to find a Japanese-speaking SLP. That gap in care for bilingual families stayed with her, and eventually led her back to school to become a clinician herself.

She loves working with clients across the lifespan and across cultures, and is especially drawn to push-in and functional therapy — meeting people in their natural environment and helping them communicate in ways that matter in their everyday lives.

Outside of work, Miya is a self-described checklist person who genuinely enjoys the satisfaction of crossing things off — and just as happily gets a little lost in a new subway system, figuring her way out as she goes. She's a first-generation Japanese immigrant who has lived and traveled across South America, India, and Africa, and credits those experiences with shaping how she connects with people navigating something unfamiliar. She shares her home with two kids and Taska, a rescued German Shepherd.
